Queer Diversity Week: April 11 to 15
Queer Diversity Week

From April 11 to April 15, CSULB will be celebrating Queer Diversity Week - a week dedicated to promoting the better understanding of the LGBTQ+ community and providing informative and engaging programs for students.

“I think it’s important to recognize how diverse our campus is,” said USU Program Council Programming Assistant Kaila-Marie Hardaway. “There are many commemorative days and weeks where we celebrate different cultures and communities and I think this one is really important to acknowledge; specifically, due to its prevalence and recent triumphs in our culture and generation.”

Queer Diversity Week will be hosted by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Queers and Allies, ASI Student Government, USU Program Council and the LGBT Resource Center. It will consist of several events, including a discussion on gender identity and unconditional love, a student panel on microagressions in the media, a movie screening of “But I’m a Cheerleader” and to end the week, Queer Prom.

  • Monday, April 11
    • “Two Spirits, One Heart: A Journey to Love and Acceptance” - Hosted by: Multicultural Affairs - Time: 6:00pm-8:00pm - Location: LA 2, 109
  • Tuesday, April 12
    • Microaggressions in the Media Student Panel - Hosted by: Q&A - Time: USU 304 - Location: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 13
    • Screening of “But I’m a Cheerleader” – Hosted by: ASI Student Government – Time: 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. - Location: PSY 148
  • Friday, April 15
    • Queer Prom – Hosted by: USU Program Council – Time: 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. – Location: USU Ballrooms

“We encourage people of all different aspects of campus to come to these events,” said Hardaway. “If you’re not a part of the [LGBTQ+] community, this is a great opportunity to learn more about a different group of people. Not only will the information positively impact you, but the events will be a lot of fun!”

Informative events, such as the student panel and teach-in, will give students an opportunity to learn about unique issues and Queer Prom will be full of music, dancing and activities – a true opportunity to practice free expression of gender and sexual identity.
