stephen for webASI Vice President Stephen Thomas

A Sacramento native, Stephen joined the Beach community as a freshman in 2008. Stephen’s passion for student advocacy started early. As a freshman, he organized a group of more than 1,000 students to extend the hours of the University Library for 24 hours during finals.

After his positive experience working alongside Associated Students, Inc. leaders on the project, he got involved as the Secretary of Systemwide Affairs in the President’s Cabinet. He worked closely with the AS President and Chief of Staff to gather the personal stories of students affected by the budget cuts and brought these letters to Sacramento to represent CSULB at the Capitol.  It is not only the potential for positive change that gives him the drive to continue his advocacy, but the challenges that come along with the job that keeps Stephen searching for more ways to advocate for higher education, student services and student rights. It is that passion that pushed him to run for Senate in 2010, where he worked with other student leaders and AS staff to assess and propose community management software to the senate in an effort to increase communication between students, student organizations, the office of Student Life and Development, and the Associated Students.

Outside of his work, he is a proud member of Theta Chi Fraternity, a former Interfraternity Council President, as well as Theta Chi Fraternity Vice President. He was recently given the honor of Greek Man of the Year. Today, he enjoys pushing his limits in more ways than one as he is in trains for his first marathon.
