Associated Students President

Serves as the chief executive officer of the Associated Students and the official representative of the Associated Students to the university and the general public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensures the proper conduct and efficient administration of all AS Executive Branch activities and reports on such to the Senate.
2. Reviews, signs, and ensures the execution of all legislation adopted by the Senate.
3. Appoints students to open positions including Chief of Staff, Chief Programming Officer, Commissioners and Cabinet members, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
4. Appoints the Chief Justice and Associate Justices subject to confirmation by the Senate.
5. Delivers a State of the Associated Students Address no later than 30 days after the start of each semester in office.
6. Chairs the AS Human Resources Committee.
7. Attends ASI Leadership Retreats held in August and January.

REQUIRED MEETINGS
• A.S. Board of Control – meets Tuesdays at 3:30 PM
• Academic Senate – meets every other Thursday from 2- 4 PM
• University Student Union Board of Trustees – 1st Friday of each month at 1 PM
• Isabel Patterson Child Development Center Board of Trustees – 3rd Friday of each month at 1 PM
• Human Resources Management Committee – 4th Friday of each month at 10 AM
• Academic Senate Executive Committee
• 49er Shops, Inc. Board of Directors
• CSULB Foundation Board of Directors
• Instructionally Related Activities Board – meets during January
• Resource Planning Process Committee (university budget committee)
• Other meetings as designated in the A.S. Bylaws and university documents

TIME COMMITMENT

Must maintain a minimum of 25 office hours per week, which includes time spent in meetings (see above) directly related to the responsibilities of the position as documented in the AS Bylaws and other governing documents of the campus. At least half of the office hours must be spent in the office. All office hours must be recorded with the Assistant Director for Student Leadership and Involvement.

COMPENSATION
• Annual Fellowship paid in semi-monthly installments of $763.50 (subject to signing agreement and meeting terms and conditions).
• Waiver of tuition by the university (subject to university approval).
• Use of office space, computing resources, and communication device.
• Ability to utilize faculty/staff parking.

COURSE CREDIT AVAILABLE
Students wishing to receive credit for service in ASI have two options:
1. Register at the Career Development Center for the Self-Placed Internship program, or
2. Enroll in an internship or Independent Studies class through the student’s academic department. Most majors offer an Internship or Independent Studies course.

Associated Students Vice President

Serves as the chairperson of the Associated Student Senate/Board of Directors and assumes the office of A.S. President upon the incapacitation, resignation, or withdrawal from the University by the A.S. President

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assists the A.S. President as deemed necessary by that officer.
2. Determines agenda and chairs weekly meetings of the Senate.
3. Places final adopted legislation on the desk of the A.S. President for his/her signature or reconsideration.
4. Files adopted legislation with the Office of the Executive Director.
5. Makes all A.S. Senate information available and accessible to the student body.
6. Attends various university board/committee meetings and retreats.
7. Attends ASI Leadership Retreats held in August and January.

REQUIRED MEETINGS
• A.S. Senate-meets every Wednesday at 3:30 PM
• A.S. Board of Control – meets Tuesdays at 3:30 PM
• Academic Senate – meets every other Thursday from 2- 4 PM
• University Student Union Board of Trustees – 1st Friday of each month at 1 PM
• Human Resources Committee – 4th Friday of each month at 10 AM

Associated Students Treasurer

Oversees the administration of Associated Students finances and ensures prudent management of its assets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Determines the agenda and serves as the Chair for the Board of Control.
2. Meets with and trains student organization officers on how to apply for funding and how to access funding once awarded.
3. Makes monthly reports to the AS Senate including a detailed account of the financial status of the Associated Students.
4. Approves disbursements made from Associated Students checking accounts.
5. Maintains records of all fiscal policies and procedures approved by the Board of Control.
6. Oversees the preparation of the Associated Students annual budget.
7. Attends various university board/committees meetings and retreats.
8. Attends ASI Leadership Retreats held in August and January.

Associated Student Senator


Serve as a representative of the students within a particular College or campus community at large. (e.g. residential students, student athletes, international students, learning communities, etc)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Represent the members of his/her particular constituency to the Associated Students
2. Attend weekly meetings of the Associated Students Senate; serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the Associated Students, Incorporated; and fulfill the legal and ethical obligations attending both positions
3. Participate in initiating amendments to the Articles of Incorporation and A.S. Bylaws, Chapter I
4. Participate in approving amendments to the A.S. Bylaws, Chapter II
5. Fill vacancies in the A.S. Senate
6. Hold membership on at least one A.S. Senate Subcommittee, A.S. Subsidiary Board, or A.S. Commission
7. Serve on university committees and boards at the direction of the Vice President
8. Compose and present resolutions to the Senate for consideration
9. Attend College Council meetings and give reports on A.S. activities (college Senators only).
10. Ensure that all activities, policies, and resolutions are initiated and carried out in the best interests of the student body as a whole
11. Attend ASI Leadership Retreats held in August and January

REQUIRED MEETINGS
• A.S. Senate - meets Wednesdays at 3:30 PM

The following meetings are required only if elected or appointed:

A.S. Board of Control –every Tuesday at 3:30 PM (2 Senators).
University Student Union Board of Trustees – 1st Friday of each month at 1 PM (2 Senators).
Student Media Board of Trustees – 2nd Friday of each month at 2 PM (1 Senator).
Isabel Patterson Child Development Center Board of Trustees – meets as needed (1 Senator).
Human Resources Management Committee – 4th Friday of each month at 10 AM  (3 Senators).
Senate Audit Committee – (2 Senators).
Other meetings as designated by the A.S. Bylaws, the President or the Vice President.

TIME COMMITMENT

Must maintain a minimum of 3 office hours per week, which includes time spent in meetings (see above). All office hours must be recorded with the Assistant Director for Student Leadership and Involvement.

COMPENSATION
• Scholarship of up to $640 per each semester (Fall & Spring)
• Use of office space, computing resources, and office phones
• Special Brotman Hall parking pass in conjunction with student pass

Students wishing to receive credit for service in ASI have two options:

Student-at-Large
University Student Union Board of Trustees

Oversee operations of the University Student Union (USU) and the Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Formulate and recommend policies regarding all aspects of the USU, Soroptimist House and the SRWC operations.
2. Recommend the annual budget of the USU to the A.S. Senate.
3. Review services and programming for the USU & SRWC
4. Recommend plans for additions and/or modifications to USU facilities.
5.Participate in the review and adjudication of parent grievances.

6. Attend AS Leadership Retreats held in August and January.

REQUIRED MEETINGS
• USU Board of Trustees -- first Friday of each month at 1 PM
• Subcommittee meetings, date and times vary.

• Other meetings as designated by the Chair.


TIME COMMITMENT

Must maintain a minimum of 2-4 office hours per week, which includes time spent in meetings (see above). All office hours must be recorded with the Assistant Director for Student Involvement and Leadership.

COMPENSATION
• Scholarship varying from $320 to $576.
• Use of office space, phone and computing resources.

COURSE CREDIT AVAILABLE

Students wishing to receive credit for service in ASI have two options:
1. Register at the Career Development Center for the Self-Placed Internship program, or
2. Enroll in an internship or Independent Studies class through the student’s academic department. Most majors offer an Internship or Independent Studies course.

Student-at-Large

Isabel Patterson Child Development Center

Oversee operations of the Isabel Patterson Child Development Center

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Formulate and recommend policies regarding all aspects of the IPCDC operations.
2. Recommend the annual budget of the IPCDC to the A.S. Senate.
3. Review services and programming for the IPCDC.
4. Recommend plans for additions and/or modifications to IPCDC facilities.
5.Participate in the review and adjudication of parent grievances.

6. Assist in fundraising efforts for the benefit of the IPCDC.

7. Attend AS Leadership Retreats held in August and January.

REQUIRED MEETINGS
• IPCDC Board of Trustees -- Fourth Friday of each month at 1 PM
• Subcommittee meetings, date and times vary.

• Other meetings as designated by the Chair.


TIME COMMITMENT

Must maintain a minimum of 3 office hours per week, which includes time spent in meetings (see above). All office hours must be recorded with the Assistant Director for Student Involvement and Leadership.

Student Media Board

1. Formulate and recommend policies regarding all aspects of A.S media to include K-Beach radio and the Long Beach Union Weekly.

2. Review services and programming for the media.

3. Ensure that all business conducted by the Board is carried out in the best interests of the student body.

4. Attend ASI Leadership Retreats held in August and January.

REQUIRED MEETINGS
• Student Media Board of Trustees – 2nd Friday of each month at 1 PM.
• Subcommittee meetings, date and times vary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Attend Academic Senate retreat (date TBA)
2. Review University policies presented to the Academic Senate.
3. Ensure that all business conducted by the Academic Senate is carried out for the best interest of the student body.
4. Attend ASI Leadership retreats held in August and January.

REQUIRED MEETINGS
• Academic Senate – 2nd & 4th Thursday of each month 2-4 PM
• Sub committee Board meetings, date and times vary.

TIME COMMITMENT
Report monthly to the Senate.

COMPENSATION
• Use of resources to include office phone & computer devices.

COURSE CREDIT AVAILABLE
