Mascot Search Annoucement

Published: Monday, 11 February 2019

Last spring, Associated Students Senate passed a resolution that formally requested that Long Beach State retire the mascot Prospector Pete. And after meeting with students, staff, administration and alumni, President Conoley announced on Sept. 20, 2018, that Prospector Pete would no longer represent Long Beach State University as the official mascot.

Students had a significant hand in making this change happen, and now we have the opportunity to come up with an all new and inclusive mascot that truly represents our diverse campus community. Starting Monday, Feb. 11, applications will be open for students to submit ideas for the new LBSU mascot!

A new mascot will represent this university for future generations, so it’s time for us to come together and create a symbol that truly emulates the inclusiveness and diversity that makes this campus great!

Sincerely,
Leen Almahdi
