Have questions about what campus will look like in the spring? Let us ease your mind and answer your questions! Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) student government is hosting a Virtual COVID-19 Student Q&A session on Nov. 5, from 2 to 3 p.m. on Zoom, to discuss COVID-19 campus safety measures and repopulation plans.

“This Q&A event gives students the opportunity to voice any concerns, questions, or comments related to COVID-19 on campus.” said Hannah Peedikayil, ASI commissioner of wellness affairs. “It is aimed at increasing transparency between students and CSULB’s administration, as well as sharing resources and educating students to ease the transition.”

The event will kick off with a presentation by Student Health Services (SHS) health ambassadors on COVID-19 campus safety. They will cover COVID-19 testing on-campus, vaccinations, mask requirements and self-reporting symptoms. Following, Dr. Kimberly Fodran, the SHS medical director and Dr. Piya Bose, the LBSU dean of students, will lead the question-and-answer portion of this information session.

“Dr. Fodran will answer questions about COVID-19 cases and safety concerns, as well as expand on SHS’s role, efforts and services.” said Peedikayil. “Dr. Bose can provide clarification on penalties for safety violations and illustrate what that might look like for students.”

This Virtual COVID-19 Student Q&A is an opportunity for students to ask questions about COVID-19 that are related to the university. It is also a safe space to express their COVID-19 concerns and provide suggestions to the campus about the spring semester.

“With over 73% of classes being back on-campus next semester, it’s important for the student population to feel safe and comfortable attending in-person classes.” said Peedikayil. “This event allows students to express their thoughts on the university’s handling of COVID-19 and have their issues directly addressed.”

At the end of the event, the SHS health ambassadors’ presentation will be sent out in a post-event email and the question-and-answer session will be recorded for students to have as a reference. Peedikyail encourages students to seek out SHS and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) campus resources following the event if they need support. She also suggests that students bookmark the LBSU COVID-19 website to stay up to date with campus updates.

“Information provided during the Q&A is also subject to change as it reflects the current status of the pandemic and the current health of the campus.” said Peedikayil.
