Who is DEV?
Devin Star Tailes, most famously known as DEV, was born and raised in California’s Central Valley on July 2, 1989. She is of Mexican and Portuguese descent, and her family immigrated from Costa Rica. She is known for being the feminine voice behind “Like G6” by The Far East Movement.
Despite later becoming a global sensation, DEV spent her childhood focused on swimming and was part of the U.S. Olympic development program. In 2007, she enrolled in college as an English major with a minor in art history but dropped out during her first year to pursue music after being discovered by the Cataracs. They were impressed by her rendition of Amy Winehouse’s “Blonde Trick,” which she recorded after learning about her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend.
Taking the leap of faith into the tumultuous music industry, DEV signed into Indie-Pop the same record label that the Cataracs were a part of and produced their infamous song “2Nite.” This song received radio recognition and was featured on MTVU.
By 2010, the Cataracs began producing "Like A G6" and sampled her chorus from her song “Booty Bounce” which catapulted her success into mainstream status, being number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 list that same year.
DEV was an instrumental artist of millennial club electronic pop songs like dancing "In the Dark" and "Bass Down Low." Her latest release "Don't Play", released two months ago, is bringing back the 2010s electronica revival.
Now you can dance, vibe and check out DEV’s set at Beach Bash!
Who is Big Sean?
Big Sean, legal name Sean Michael Leonard Anderson, was born on March 25, 1988, in Santa Monica, California and moved to Detroit, Michigan at just three months old with parents who divorced shortly after.
Since the 1980s, Detroit has developed its own distinct sound, as the first wave of hip-hop emerged through breakdancing culture. By the 1990s, the genre continued to evolve through open mic performances, where rhythm and rhyme merged with elements of slam poetry.
In this environment, Sean was inspired by the sounds and shared struggles of other artists who experienced financial instability growing up. He began creating beats and rapping at just 11 years old and started performing at 15 at local events around Detroit.
At 17, Big Sean went to Detroit’s 102.7FM, where he was known for getting into rap battles. One day, Kanye West showed up at the station to promote his album Late Registration. Sean rushed to the station to meet him and asked to freestyle 16 bars in front of West. Impressed, West took Sean’s demo CD and signed him to his label two years later, in 2007.
Sean got pushed into the limelight on his third mixtape, "Finally Famous Vol. 3 Big (2010)." Since his commercial success, Big Sean was featured on songs alongside Drake, John Legend, Chris Brown, Ty Dolla Sign and Tyga. His most prolific songs include "Intro", "Blessings", " I Do It" and "Play No Games."
Since then, Big Sean has become a global hit among millennials and gen z, and he was synonymous with the club hits of the early and mid-2010s. But his success didn’t end there. Big Sean has since produced a myriad of hits as well as investing in philanthropic work such as creating his own nonprofit called the Sean Anderson Foundation (SAF) that helps kids with education, health, safety and the well-being that initially focused on Detroit youth but has expanded nationwide through the Boys and Girls Club of America.
Now, what are you waiting for? Get tickets for the best event of the year today! See you there.
