Campus life at The Beach isn’t just about lectures and late-night study sessions in your room; it’s also about finding your “third space.” Beyond a place you call home and the classroom, your third space is where you can recharge, connect or simply breathe intentionally.
Whether you’re looking for a quiet corner to focus on your studies or a lively spot to hang out between classes, here are some of the best places to make your own!
Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC)
The SRWC is not only a great place to work out, but it’s also a perfect place to study. There are tables and outlets located in the lobby near Shake Smart, and another good spot is right next to the sports equipment check-out where there is a wall full of places to do your homework and study!
Another hidden gem of the SRWC is Beach Balance on the second floor, a space to unwind and clear your mind from daily stress.
The Bookstore
The second floor of the University Bookstore now offers comfortable couches and lounge areas, creating a cozy and quiet environment to relax or catch up on reading while trying to stay out of the sun or rain between classes.
Peterson Hall 1 (PH1)
ASI offers a variety of study spaces for students in PH1, available both upstairs and downstairs when meeting rooms are not in use. The rooms currently open for student use include PH1 101 and PH1 108 on the lower level, as well as PH1 209, PH1 214 and PH1 219 upstairs. Students are welcome to use these rooms for individual or group study whenever they are available.
Library
The Long Beach State University (LBSU) Library is the classic go-to for focused studying. It offers a mix of quiet zones, group study rooms, computer labs, basement, extensive research resources and an outside patio. Whether you are pulling an all-nighter during finals season or just need an hour of concentration, the Library has what you need!
Central Quad
The Central Quad is perfect for outdoor studying and socializing. With plenty of greenery and often a gentle breeze, it’s a great spot to have a picnic or relax between classes or catch up on reading in the sun.
Whether you need a peaceful study nook, a place to move your body or just somewhere to get your mind off your responsibilities, there’s a third space for you at The Beach! Explore trying out different spots and finding the one that helps you feel most at home on campus.
