About King Richard

“It’s about the journey, not the destination”. Nominated for four Golden Globes and six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay, King Richard puts a hard-hitting spin on the quote in the form of tennis. Venus and Serena Williams are two of the most recognizable names in tennis. The Olympic gold medalists have made a name for themselves in the history of American sports, but are you familiar with their father's integral role in their future athletic greatness? That's the story that the film, King Richard, is set to tell. Two-time Oscar nominee Will Smith stars as King Richard, a real-life amateur US tennis coach who fought his way up to help his daughters become the world’s most sensational winners. He’s a king who put queens before us, knowing how wonderful they were and certain that we would see it too. He created a space for us to believe in them, and King Richard shows us how he fought for that space, inch by inch and match by match.
