City of Long Beach Mayoral Candidates Forum at Long Beach State University

Long Beach, Calif. - Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) has partnered with the Long Beach chapter, of the League of Women Voters to host the Long Beach Mayoral Candidate Forum. The candidates, Vice Mayor Rex Richardson, and Councilmember Suzie Price, will meet Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the University Student Union (USU) Beach Auditorium, to discuss local issues and policy.

Eli Aguayo, Chief Government Relations Officer for ASI and Lobby Corps, will moderate the event. "I'm excited that our students have an opportunity to engage with the candidates in a forum like this," Aguayo said. "Being civically engaged, especially at a local level, is so important right now and it is great to have [student] voices and concerns heard."

As moderator, Aguayo will ask the candidates questions from students and community members in attendance. This event is an opportunity for students and community stakeholders to learn more about the candidates and understand where they stand on important local issues.

Jane Bemis, President of the Long Beach chapter of the League of Women Voters commented on the event. "[We are] happy to partner with ASI in presenting the two candidates for mayor of Long Beach," Bemis said. ASI, the League of Women Voters and Student Government leaders, are looking forward to hosting this event, which highlights, as Aguayo said, the need for more engagement in local politics, especially from young people.

The event is open to the public and the press. For all questions and/or media inquiries, contact Shannon Couey.
