04/27/24 - Nikki Majidi, Matt Melendrez and Andre Achacon swept the Associated Student Inc. election season as a slate and will be the new leaders of Long Beach State ASI during the next academic year.

04/21/24 - As the clock hit six on Saturday night, students filled the Walter Pyramid as it was booming with music so loudly you could feel the bass in your bones.

04/15/24 - Students gathered at the University Student Union North Lawn to enjoy complimentary food while engaging with a variety of Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi (APID) student organizations in celebration of APID Heritage Month on April 10.

04/07/24 - The Isabel Patterson Child Development Center (IPCDC) received a grant for almost $3.5 million that was awarded during a ceremony on April 5 by congress member and Long Beach State alumnus Rep. Robert Garcia.

03/30/24 - California State University Long Beach’s Associated Students Inc. voted no confidence in Mitali Jain, ASI president, at a special meeting on March 29. According to Laura Butt, ASI Government Affairs Senior Coordinator, this is the first time a vote of no confidence has taken place.

03/29/24 - On day 746 of girlhood, trans musical theater actress, comedian and content creator Dylan Mulvaney shared her experiences on her gender transition and relationship with social media to student attendees on Wednesday night.

03/28/24 - Wheels were swiftly turning as CSULB students participated in the Mario Kart wheelchair race on March 26. Hosted in the Student Recreation and Wellness Center main gym, the Inclusive Recreation team made a small race course with stanchions and rope.

03/21/24 - Associated Students Inc. presidential candidate Nikki Majidi was announced as the new president-elect, winning alongside the entire joint ticket she ran with, including executive vice president Matt Melendrez and vice president of finance Andre Achacon.

03/20/24 - The Long Beach State candidates vying for the position of Associated Student Inc. vice president of finance addressed what role the position plays in CSU tuition increases and student insecurity during an interview with the Daily Forty-Niner. The position focuses on the management of finances and assets at ASI.

03/20/24 - California State University Long Beach’s Associated Student Inc. elections are underway and candidates for the executive vice president position answered student centered questions for the Daily Forty-Niner.

03/20/24 - The Southeast Terrace by the University Student Union was flooded by a litter of vibrant and playful puppies on March 19. Long Beach State students had the chance to destress from midterms to enjoy Scooby snacks, Do-It-Yourself dog toys and plenty of puppies during the Associated Students Inc. Pups and Cups event.

03/19/24 - The four Associated Students, Inc. president candidates spoke with the Daily Forty-Niner about many topics, including basic student needs and possible tuition increase solutions. Long Beach State’s ASI president acts as the official representative of the ASI association on campus and to the public.

03/16/24 - Student basic needs like housing and food, campus issues that need addressing and candidates use of connections within city of Long Beach were topics tackled during the March 13 Associated Students Inc. executive branch debate. This was the only debate between the candidates ahead of the March 18 to 20 election.

03/13/24 - Associations and students gathered in the University Student Union Ballrooms on March 6 from noon to 2 p.m. for the annual Women’s History Month Kickoff event. Sponsored by the Women’s and Gender Equity Center and ASI Beach Pride Events, the kickoff created a space for students to join the celebration of past and present women with an afternoon full of live performances, food and crafts.

03/12/24 - The first campaigning event for ASI candidates, “Coffee with the Candidates” kicked off in front of the CSULB bookstore walkway. Candidates were excited to answer students’ questions and explain their campaign goals. Students were handed a card with five boxes that required a five signatures from candidates.

03/11/24 - Drumming and singing echoed through Long Beach State’s upper campus as Native American culture was on full display during the 51st annual Pow Wow weekend. Kicking off Saturday morning, CSULB’s annual Pow Wow highlighted the traditions of Native American people from across the nation, hosting ceremonies and Indigenous vendors.

03/03/24 - Isabel Patterson Child Development Center (IPCDC) has struggled to maintain student assistant teachers who are directly tasked in taking care of children. The child development center can hold up to 185 families at a time, said Miles Nevin, associate vice president and executive director of student auxiliary enterprises.

02/28/24 - Students won prizes and celebrated the release of “Tekken 8” in a round-robin style tournament at the USU Esports Lounge on Friday, Feb. 24. Cal State Long Beach’s fighting game community and Associated Students Incorporated hosted the event, with an open-call invitation for students to participate and enjoy the new release of “Tekken 8.”

02/14/24 - The Office of Multicultural Affairs, the East Asia Subcommittee and ASI Beach Pride Events celebrated the Lunar New Year in the University Student Union Ballroom on Feb. 12. The celebration included Asian cuisine, cultural performances, music and crafts.

02/12/24 - The student assistant unionization movement has come to a vote among both California State University Employee Union members and student assistants, according to the union website.
