Winter Fun in Long Beach

Staying in town after the semester ends? Long Beach has a wide array of fun, hearty activities for you to celebrate your winter holidays!

Spend an evening or two walking through Naples, a neighborhood stretching across three small islands in Alamitos Bay. Each winter, residents pull out all the stops with extravagant, bright lights and ornaments wrapping every inch of the neighborhood like a Christmas gift for the public to enjoy. For the main event, Naples Island’s Annual Holiday Boat Parade will be take place on December 17, showcasing decorated boats competing for awards and live music!

And if you want to step it up a notch, feel free to hop on a gondola with a special someone or group of friends! Gondola Getaway hosts relaxing hour-long cruises through the Naples canals, offering an enchanting view and experience of the Naples lights.

Keeping in the holiday spirit, enjoy a night of outdoor ice skating at the Queen Mary’s world class ice rink! While you’re there, you can also check out their presentation of Alice in Winterland.

If you just want to kick back, read a book and enjoy your break, feel free to do so over a cozy cup of coffee at Rose Park Roasters, Viento Y Agua, Portfolio Coffeehouse or another nice, locally owned coffee shop.

And although it may not seem to be in proper holiday “fashion,” take advantage of living in Southern California and hit up the beach! Gather some friends, bundle up in blankets and sit by the ocean side. If you’re at Huntington, Dockweiler or Bolsa Chica, go ahead and warm up with a bonfire too!

And of course, your University Student Union will still be open over the break, so don’t forget to come visit us!
