5 Ways to De-stress During Finals Week

Published: Thursday, 6 December 2018

Hi there! Logan Cross, here. You may have seen my face on some of the posters around the USU and SRWC or hosting a few episodes of Beach Week and/or ASFit. Then again, you may have not. Regardless, that’s my face in the graphic above!

I’m a full-time student here, and just knowing that finals are around the corner already has my blood pressure rising. That’s why I’m here to give you a few tips on how I take advantage of ASI’s programs and services to de-stress during finals!

  1. Take a stretch break every hour or two
Taking breaks is key when it comes to de-stressing! I try to take a few minutes every hour or two to get up from my studying spot to stretch my limbs, take a walk around the room or even dance it out to one of my favorite songs. As long as you get up and move, I say it counts!
  2. Switch up studying locations
Feel like you’ve been sitting in the same spot for hours? Try switching up where you’re studying to increase your productivity. A change of scenery always helps reset your mind so you can get back to studying again. Need suggestions? I’ve studied in the After Hours Study Center in the USU, by the pool at the SRWC Aquatics Center and in the library while it’s open for 24 hours during finals week. The USU is also open extended hours during this season!
  3. Take a 20-minute nap
Getting sleep during finals week is like trying to get the university to change our mascot to a squirrel -- it probably won’t happen. If you’re not getting a full six to eight hours of sleep per night, try reclaiming some of that time by taking a quick 20 minute nap during the day. You’ll wake up feeling refreshed and ready to ace that exam!
  4. Exercise
Get your mind off impending deadlines and get your body moving! Exercising is one of the best ways to de-stress during finals week. Stop by the SRWC during finals week and take a group fitness class, swim a couple of laps or lift a few weights downstairs. Whatever you do, just get moving!
  5. Attend ASI’s Final’s Week in the USU and SRWC
The USU and SRWC teams are dedicated to the wellbeing of LBSU students during finals week, so make sure to check out all the events and activities happening from Dec. 13 to Dec. 19! With arts and crafts, puppy therapy and free donuts, ASI has everything you need to make finals week a little easier to get through. Find out more at www.asicsulb.org/finals.

That’s all I have for you, LBSU. Good luck on your finals and Go Beach!
